An AI opportunity review for an engineering consultancy
An engineering consultancy wanted to understand where AI could help its team. We reviewed the way they worked and delivered a report covering practical opportunities, a staged approach and the resources involved.
Earlier consultancy work. This example covers our former report-led AI review service. Today we focus on software development, consultancy and coaching.
Software development & consultancy todayThe client
A building services engineering consultancy in London, working across engineering design, project documentation and specialist advice. Its team needed to coordinate technical work, records and communication across client projects.
Before OKII
Meeting notes and action points were being recorded and shared manually. Project documentation and compliance records also involved manual tracking, while much of the team’s internal communication took place through email and meetings.
The opportunity was broader than choosing a single AI tool. The business needed to understand which parts of its existing work could benefit, what staff would need to learn and how any changes could fit alongside the systems already in use.
What we did
We spent time with the team discussing the business and the way its work was carried out. Those conversations informed a written AI opportunity report, starting with the existing processes, tools and recurring bottlenecks.
The report explored uses such as meeting documentation, clearer written communication, finding and summarising information, and support for design and marketing materials. It connected each suggestion to a task or need identified during the review.
We set out a prospective rollout in stages, including training, adoption, information handling and the resources each stage would need. The report also included indicative project costs and timings to support decisions about what to investigate first.
We shared the report ahead of a session to work through it with the team. This gave them an opportunity to consider the recommendations and discuss the next steps together.
After OKII
The client had a written review of its current position, a set of relevant AI opportunities and a staged route for considering them. The report brought the recommendations, adoption considerations and indicative costs into one document the team could discuss.
Following the review, the client identified an internal AI lead and said they would bring an action team together to progress the recommendations. That gave the next decisions an owner within the business.
This case study covers the completed review and report. The rollout described in the report was a proposed next stage.
